Hello! I’m Charlotte Cheng, Wonder Workshop’s curriculum designer. We introduced our new K-5 Learn to Code Curriculum at ISTE …
… and thought we’d bring a little bit of ISTE to all of you! Here’s a video introduction that breaks down each component of our new curriculum:
Curriculum Overview
In our Learn to Code Curriculum, we outline a recommended action plan for integrating coding and robotics into your daily practices.
This plan offers a variety of teaching tools that include free coding lesson plans, student-facing challenge cards, and a curriculum guide.
Our Learn to Code Curriculum is organized into six coding levels: A through F. These levels are aligned with Code.org’s Computer Science (CS) Fundamentals series, where each level covers two or three of the six fundamental coding concepts: sequences, loops, events, conditionals, functions, and variables.
Challenge Cards
Our set of 72 physical Challenge Cards [ISBN: 978–0–9989850–0–8] progresses students through each coding level’s programming concepts. For each card, one side tells a story about Dash and/or Dot. The other side then provides a set of instructions that walks students through the completion of a coding challenge.
Curriculum Guide
For each Challenge Card, our Curriculum Guide [ISBN: 978–0–9989850–1–5] provides hints, a suggested solution, discussion questions, and ELA/math connections.
The guide also offers worksheets to help students plan, keep track of, and reflect on their coding experience. Furthermore, we walk you through implementation and assessment strategies.
Free Coding Lessons
We offer free coding lessons on our new education website.
These lessons help you introduce different coding concepts to your classroom by using our in-app content and challenge cards. Each level will end with an assessment project that exposes students to the design thinking process.
We will be uploading more lessons throughout the summer, so please check back to see more content!
